  • Our Public/Private Partnerships

New Hampshire Healthy Kids Corporation was created by special legislative act in 1993. Although a private non-profit corporation, NHHK is deemed to be a public instrumentality performing important functions of the state. From this unique start, NHHK has fostered a public-private partnership that has become a national model. This partnership has been successful in reducing the percent of uninsured children from 10.8% to 5.2%. Since the Healthy Kids program was launched, New Hampshire has become the third best state for covering kids, up from 20 th place when NHHK was established.

    • “Fostered an effective public-private partnership with schools, healthcare providers, social service agencies, families, and the State of New Hampshire that has been cited as a national model by US Majority Leader Bill Frist.
    • Cultivated financial partnerships with all New Hampshire community hospitals, the Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinic, the Behavioral Health Network, and thousands of healthcare providers including 89% of the state’s pediatricians and family physicians. The value of these partnerships reduced the cost of Healthy Kids insurance by more than $19 per child per month in fiscal year 2005. The value of our partnerships and other in-kind donations total almost $8 million over the past decade.
    • Implemented a unique partnership with community healthcare centers and hospitals to provide training and technical support to staff that provide community-based application assistance to uninsured families.
    • Assisted more than 72,000 children in accessing health coverage for some period of time.

"We found this public-private corporation to be a dedicated advocate for children’s health. Healthy Kids (NHHK) has had great success in reducing the number of uninsured children in New Hampshire. Through a concerted effort to use its unique status as a bridge between the private and public sectors, it has leveraged its excellent relationship with providers and community organizations to provide a high quality benefit at an affordable price.” - Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
